Pursuit through Prescott Valley ends in police shooting

Police say the suspect tried to ram a police cruiser as he fled, and the officer fired at him in response.

PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. — A high-speed pursuit through Prescott Valley Wednesday afternoon only ended after an officer shot at the accused driver and police deployed a K-9 to stop him.

The chase started around 6:32 p.m. along Highway 69 in Prescott after the driver of a Chevrolet truck failed to yield to an officer.

The driver of the Chevy continued through the town at speeds of 120 miles per hour. Police say when the suspect got to Lake Valley, he made a U-turn and tried to ram a police cruiser as he fled. The officer in the cruiser shot at the suspect as he sped off.

The suspect crashed into another car before stopping at the Frontier Village Shopping Center and tried to flee on foot.

Police then deployed a K-9 unit who subdued the suspect. 

No officers were hurt.

The driver of the car that collided with the suspect suffered minor injuries. The suspect is in custody and was taken to a local hospital and is expected to recover.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety Special Investigations Unit is handling the investigation.
