KINGMAN, Ariz. — A Mohave County Sheriff's Office deputy shot and killed a suspect after a confrontation escalated into shots fired on Wednesday, according to the sheriff's office.

The Mohave County Sheriff's Office says deputies were requested to assist another agency with a pursuit with a Chevrolet Suburban around 12:30 p.m.

Deputies spotted the vehicle and attempted to make a traffic stop. The 50-year-old suspect from Kingman got out of the SUV holding a handgun.

The deputy continued to follow the suspect and repeatedly ordered the man to drop the weapon, according to the Kingman Police Department. When a second deputy arrived, investigators say the suspect pointed the gun at the deputy who then fired.

The suspect ran off but was later found dead with several gunshot wounds, including one that may have been self-inflicted.

No deputies were injured.

Further details on what led to the pursuit have not yet been made available and the suspect has not been identified.

The Kingman Police Department is now the lead agency investigating the incident.
