FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. — Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow! The first official snowfall of the season came down Friday in Flagstaff.
Snow began falling at Flagstaff Pulliam Airport Friday, marking the first measurable snowfall for the region. We’ve seen traces of snow earlier this month, but nothing measurable. In all, we’re expecting 2-6” of snow above 8000’ Friday night.
You’ll remember last winter we had record breaking snow, with more than 146.7” in Flagstaff. (That’s more than 12’ of powder!) The Bellemont National Weather Service reported the 146.7 inches of snow from July 1 to March 1, making last season the fifth snowiest meteorological winter. That’s well above the previous record of 115.4 inches in 2009-10.
More snow is in the forecast for the end of next week. The heaviest snowfall usually happens from early December through February. However, we’ve seen some storms continue into March.
The latest snowstorm reported was on May 29, 1990.
