It's official: The 2027 NBA All-Star game will be played in Phoenix

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver made the announcement March 7 in Phoenix.

PHOENIX — It's official, Arizona sports fans: the 2027 NBA All-Star game will be played in Phoenix.

The 76th NBA All-Star Game will take place at Footprint Center on Sunday, Feb. 21, 2027. NBA Commissioner Adam Silver made the announcement during a March 7 news conference, with Suns Chairman Mat Ishbia and Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs in attendance. The news conference also featured a recorded message from Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego.

“Phoenix is the ultimate basketball destination and we are excited for fans from around the world to experience our amazing city,” Ishbia said during the news conference. “We will provide an NBA All-Star Weekend unlike any other, showcasing the passion of our fans, our city, and everything that we’re building here. Thank you to the NBA and the entire Phoenix community for rallying together to bring this marquee event to Phoenix and show the world what we are all about.”

The next three host cities for the NBA All-Star Game are San Francisco in 2025, Los Angeles in 2026 and Phoenix in 2027.

The Valley will get a taste of All-Star weekend this year as the Phoenix Mercury is hosting the 2024 WNBA All-Star Game and Weekend events.

Phoenix previously hosted the NBA All-Star Game three separate times. The first was in 1975 at Arizona Veterans Memorial Coliseum. The NBA All-Star Weekend returned to Arizona in 1995 at what was once called America West Arena. The most recent All-Star Game in Phoenix occurred in 2009.

Arizona sports 

The city of Phoenix is home to five major professional sports league teams; The NFL's Arizona Cardinals, NBA's Phoenix Suns, WNBA’s Phoenix Mercury, MLB's Arizona Diamondbacks and NHL's Arizona Coyotes.  

The Cardinals have made State Farm Stadium in Glendale their home turf and the Footprint Center in downtown Phoenix is home to both the Suns and the Mercury. The Indoor Football League’s Arizona Rattlers play at Desert Diamond Arena in Glendale. The Coyotes play at Mullett Arena on ASU's Tempe campus. 

Phoenix also has a soccer team with the USL's Phoenix Rising FC, who play at Phoenix Rising FC Stadium in Phoenix. 

The Valley hosts multiple major sporting events on a yearly basis, including college football's Fiesta Bowl and Guaranteed Rate Bowl; the PGA Tour’s highest-attended event, the WM Phoenix Open; NASCAR events each spring and fall, including Championship Weekend in November; and Cactus League Spring Training for 15 Major League Baseball franchises.
