The results are in!
It was a great week of voting to kick us off this year in the Friday Night Fever Week 1 Sweet Play of the Week as we received 108,554 votes!
After the poll closed, one play emerged victorious with more than 66,000 votes!
Congratulations to Red Mountain's Simon Lopez and Tyreke Cornett! Their TD connection during the Mountain Lion's season-opening victory over Mesa is the Week 1 Sweet Play of the Week and will contend for the title of Sweet Play of the Year and a $5,000 scholarship, courtesy of Sweet James Accident Attorneys, at the end of the season. Their play received 61% of the vote, which amounts to 66,262 votes!
The 77-yard catch and run for a touchdown by Mountain Ridge High School's Vincent Norfolk finished in second place with 37.8% of the vote (41,061 votes).
The fumble recovery and pass for a touchdown from Arcadia quarterback Braylen Rooney to wide receiver Ian Slater finished in third with 1.1% of the vote (1,231 votes).

The 2024 high school football season has officially kicked off in Arizona and Friday Night Fever is back for its 35th season on 12News!
With our new season comes a new segment on the show.
In past years, we showed you the top three plays of the night, which were called "Hot Shots." This year, they have a new name and higher stakes.
This year, the plays of the night will be called "Sweet Plays."
Each week three plays will be nominated to become the Sweet Play of the Week and will be voted on by you, the fans.
Each weekly winner will be eligible to become the Sweet Play of the Year, with the player in the winning play at the end of the season taking home a $5,000 scholarship, courtesy of Sweet James Accident Attorneys.
Week 1 Sweet Plays
Here are the plays that have been nominated to become the first Sweet Play of the Week.
- Red Mountain QB Simon Lopez pass to WR Tyreke Cornett, who tiptoes along the sideline and into the endzone for a touchdown
- Mountain Ridge RB Vincent Norfolk catches a pass and runs 77 yards for a touchdown
- Arcadia QB Braylen Rooney recovers a fumbled snap in the endzone, throws a deep pass to Ian Slater, who takes it the rest of the way for a touchdown
