PHOENIX — A juvenile was taken into custody Saturday night during a school dance in Phoenix for allegedly assaulting an officer.

The Phoenix Police Department said officers were dispatched to Betty H. Fairfax High School near 59th Avenue and Baseline Road after a mother called 911 reporting students were allegedly "flashing guns" during the homecoming dance on campus.

School staff told police there was a juvenile male inside the dance with a gun and "threatening students."

When officers attempted to detain the juvenile, he allegedly resisted and a struggle ensued. Police said an officer deployed their taser during the struggle.

The child was eventually taken into custody and officers only reported finding a pencil wrapped in cloth and a comb inside his pockets.

The juvenile was taken to the Juvenile Court Center and could be facing charges of aggravated assault on a police officer, resisting arrest, and disorderly conduct.

The Phoenix Union High School District said that at no time were shots fired and no weapons were found during Saturday's incident.

"There is no imminent threat to our school or to anyone’s safety," the district wrote in a statement.

The school district is planning to host a meeting for parents later this week to discuss the incident.
