SURPRISE, Ariz. — A domestic violence suspect is facing several felony charges after he allegedly waited outside a Surprise residence and assaulted a woman, police say.
Police officers were dispatched Saturday morning to a residence near Dysart and Greenway roads after a neighbor reported seeing a man grab a woman by her hair and drag her inside the home.
Upon arrival, officers reported hearing a woman scream for help and forced their way inside the residence where they allegedly found a man sitting on top of a woman and assaulting her, police said.
Officers deployed bean bag-rounds to stop the assault. Multiple knives were allegedly found on the floor near the suspect.
The woman sustained cuts and contusions. She was taken to the hospital.
Police later identified the suspect as 26-year-old Garrett Headrick, who had been in a relationship with the victim. Police said Headrick traveled from California and waited outside the victim's residence before confronting her.
Headrick could be facing charges of attempted murder, aggravated assault, kidnapping, disorderly conduct and unlawful imprisonment.
