ARIZONA, USA — You still have time to weigh in on a new name for some of the Arizona Department of Transportation's snowplows.
Back in January, ADOT asked the public to come up with names for three of its 200 snowplows. ADOT said it got some pretty cool submissions.
Now ADOT has announced the finalists for its Name-A-Snowplow Contest.
“It’s fantastic that thousands of people came up with clever names, and I can’t wait to see the winners," said ADOT Director Jennifer Toth.
The list was narrowed down to 10 after ADOT received 3,400 name submissions.
Here are the finalists:
- Blizzard Buster
- Cinder Claus
- Fast and Flurryous
- Flake 48
- Mogollon Monster
- Plower Express
- Scoopacabra
- Scooperstition
- Snowbi-Wan Kenobi
- Squall-E
“Arizona drivers participating in this contest help highlight the important work our snowplow operators perform during each winter storm to help everyone get home safely,” said Toth.
Snowplow operators work around the clock across the state to treat and clear the highways of ice and snow before and after winter storms, ADOT said.

ADOT offered these safety tips if you encounter a snowplow on the highway:
- Never attempt to pass a snowplow.
- Stay at least four car-lengths behind snowplows and equipment. Plowed snow can create a cloud that reduces visibility.
- Slow down and give the plow extra room.
