Want to name a snowplow? ADOT is making your dreams come true

The Arizona Department of Transportation is giving Arizonans the opportunity to name a snowplow once again. Submissions are open through Jan. 25.

PHOENIX — The Arizona Department of Transportation is once again looking for name ideas for three of the 200 snowplows in the ADOT fleet.

While snow is not what people typically think of when it comes to Arizona, places like Flagstaff, along the Mogollon Rim and southeast Arizona receive plenty of snow. Last year, the ADOT snowplows logged more than 1.2 million miles.

“When winter storms hit, our snowplow operators work around the clock to make highway travel safe,” ADOT Director Jennifer Toth said in a press release. “This contest is a fun way to create awareness about the vital work they do, share some tips for safe driving near snowplows – never pass the plow – and award bragging rights to a few creative Arizonans.”

In the first contest, over 5,000 snowplow names were submitted and over 7,000 votes were cast. The winners from the first Name-A-Snowplow Contest were Alice Snooper, Snowguaro and Frost Responder.

Want to try your luck at the name game? Here's what you need to know.

How to submit to the Name-A-Snowplow Contest

  • First, think of a punny or creative snowplow name (bust out those Dad jokes)
  • Once you have a name or two, head to the Name-A-Plow website. There is 'snow' limit on the amount of times you can enter, ADOT said.
  • Submissions close Jan. 25.
  • ADOT will review all of the submission and select 10-15 finalists. The public will then vote for their favorite names.
  • The three names that receive the most votes will be placed with a decal on the driver side of the snowplow cab.
