Coconino County reports first coronavirus death

The person was a man in his 50s with underlying health conditions. It is the sixth COVID-19 death statewide.

COCONINO COUNTY, Ariz. — A man in his 50s was the first person to die of COVID-19 in Coconino County, officials announced Tuesday.  

Health officials said he had underlying health conditions. 

The county health department is working to identify anyone who had contact with the man.  

The Arizona Department of Health Services said this is the sixth coronavirus death in Arizona. 

As of Tuesday, there were 18 confirmed cases of coronavirus in the county. 

Five people had died in Arizona of coronavirus-related complications as of Tuesday morning, ADHS said. 

Three people died in Maricopa County, and one person died in Pima County.

“Our thoughts are with the family during this difficult time,” said County Incident Commander and Deputy County Manager Dr. Marie Peoples. “We share in this family’s grief and are deeply committed to doing all we can to ensure the health and safety of our community. We urge everyone to take precautions to protect themselves and their family including washing their hands frequently, staying home when they are sick and contacting a healthcare provider for medical guidance."
