14-year-old sentenced for fatal shooting of Casa Grande teenager

Hailey Stephens was shot to death during a house party last year in Casa Grande.

CASA GRANDE, Ariz. — One the teenagers arrested in connection to the death of 17-year-old Hailey Stephens has been sentenced in court.

The 14-year-old defendant was ordered to be placed in the custody of the Arizona Juvenile Corrections Department until 2027.

Court records show the teen had been previously adjudicated to be delinquent for the offenses of second-degree murder, disorderly conduct with a weapon, aggravated assault, criminal damage and unlawful discharge of a firearm.

The court found no level of probation supervision would "adequately protect the community," thus resulting in the teenager being placed in juvenile corrections.

Stephens was a senior at Casa Grande Union High School and had been part of her school's cheer team. The 17-year-old was at a party on the night of Nov. 25, 2023 when a fight broke out and shots were fired, police said.

Stephens and another teenager were struck by the gunfire.

Casa Grande police made several arrests in the following days, including suspects as young as 13.
