PHOENIX — The man accused of stabbing two Arizona women in separate cases will remain behind bars without bond after hearing testimony about the attacks and police interviews.
A judge decided Monday that 26-year-old Raad Almansoori will not be granted a bond after a detective with the Surprise Police Department told the court Almansoori allegedly admitted to wanting to rape and kill both the victims. He picked both victims based on their looks.
Police said the first attack happened on Feb. 17 when Almansoori allegedly stabbed a Starbucks employee while she was on her break near Glendale and 19th Avenues.
The employee notified coworkers of the attack through a drive-thru headset she was still wearing before making her way to an urgent care facility nearby.
The next day, police said Almansoori allegedly stabbed a female employee inside the women's restroom at a McDonald's in Surprise.
"She described his eyes as evil," Detective Jeremy Goebel said. "When asking for clarification, she described the pupils of the suspect's eyes being all dark."
Both victims were stabbed in the neck. Both victims fought back. Both victims survived.
A grand jury has recently indicted the defendant for two counts of attempted murder, two counts of aggravated assault, two counts of attempted sexual assault, and one count of theft.
Police found and arrested Almansoori at Scottsdale Fashion Square Mall after tracing a car he allegedly stole about a mile away from the second stabbing.
When questioned about a motive, Goebel said Almansoori told detectives about the absence of love in his life.
“He stated that he’s been seeking to find love his whole life and hasn’t been able to find it," Goebel said.
Authorities said Almansoori also detailed plans to kill more people, including his own family.
"Did he specifically indicate that he wanted to kill his father and stepmother and burn down the house?" the prosecutor asked Goebel.
"Yes, he was very specific to that detail," Goebel said. “He was going to hire an Uber driver, find a means to kill the Uber driver, take their vehicle in order to complete the murder of his father, stepmother, burning the house down."
Almansoori didn't speak much at the hearing. His attorney noted that the defendant had been diagnosed with schizophrenia.
He's also wanted in New York for the murder of a woman at a Soho hotel and has an extensive criminal record in Florida.
Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell has said he will not be extradited to New York to face murder charges there until he faces his charges here in Arizona.
