MESA, Ariz. — Two teenagers have been indicted on assault and arson charges in connection with an explosion that caused thousands of dollars worth of damage to a Mesa home and injured the owner inside, the Maricopa County Attorney's office announced.
The blast happened on June 13 when 18-year-old Daniel Traynor and 19-year-old Eliyzar Frias allegedly left an "explosive device" at the front door of a home near Guadalupe Road and Arizona Avenue.
When it detonated, the blast shattered several windows, including one above the homeowner inside.
"The victim believed he had been shot," MCAO said in a press release. "The explosion caused thousands of dollars' worth of damage."
One of the suspects was detained in Tempe shortly after the incident and the other turned himself in on June 19. Fire investigators believed it to be a firework, but MCAO did not specify the exact nature of the explosive.

Traynor and Frias were indicted on June 16 on multiple felony charges including arson of an occupied structure, depositing explosives and aggravated assault. Both of them are being held on a $100,000 bond.
“Regardless of someone’s age, these destructive and potentially deadly acts will not be tolerated,” said County Attorney Rachel Mitchell.
