Glendale man shot, killed by police was recently arrested on 3 counts of sexual exploitation of a minor

Karl Komorowski, 37, was arrested on July 24 by Glendale police.
Officials said the man showed up at a home despite a protective order and barricaded himself inside just after noon.

GLENDALE, Ariz. — The man who was shot and killed by Glendale police after a domestic violence and barricade situation was arrested in July on three counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, according to the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office.

Karl Komorowski, 37, was arrested on July 24 by Glendale police. He was released three days later since the case was not filed by the county attorney.

Glendale police did submit the charges for review to the Maricopa County Attorney's Office but the case was sent back to Glendale police. Officials with the attorney's office said they need additional information and evidence "in order to move forward with prosecution."

On September 4, Komorowski ignored a protective order and barricaded himself inside a home. The woman who filed the protective order and a child were able to escape unharmed, officials said.

After hours of negotiations and after firing several shots at officers, Komorowski came outside armed with a rifle and began running at officers, officials said. Several officers fired their weapons, hitting Komorowski. He died at the scene.

No officers were injured.

The Surprise Police Department will investigate the shooting as part of the West Valley Incident Response Team.
