A man barricaded himself inside a Glendale home after ignoring a protective order. He was later shot and killed by police.

Here's what we know.

GLENDALE, Ariz. — A 37-year-old man died after being shot by Glendale police officers Wednesday during a domestic disturbance, according to Jose Santiago, public information officer with the Glendale Police Department.

Officials said the man showed up at a home despite a protective order and barricaded himself inside just after noon. Neighbors who knew about the protective order called 911.

A woman and a child inside the residence were able to escape safely, Santiago said.

"The suspect was armed and threatening harm against himself and officers," a statement from the Glendale Police Department said. "Glendale officers attempted for several hours to negotiate with the suspect to surrender peacefully."

Law enforcement used SWAT units to breach windows and doors in hopes of getting the suspect to surrender.

During a negotiation process, the suspect came out of the home and began firing shots at officers, officials said. An officer fired back, striking the suspect.

The suspect was later pronounced dead, Glendale officers said.

No officers were injured. The suspect has not been identified as officers are in the process of notifying his next-of-kin, officials said.

The Surprise Police Department will investigate the shooting as part of the West Valley Incident Response Team.
