I-10 road rage suspect trades in vehicle to avoid being arrested, DPS says

Salvatore Patrick Kupreisis was arrested on Jan. 12 in connection with a road rage incident on Jan. 4, in which the victim was shot in the face, DPS said.

CHANDLER, Ariz. — The suspect in a road rage shooting on Interstate 10 earlier this month went to extreme measures, including trading in his vehicle, to avoid arrest, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

Salvatore Patrick Kupreisis was arrested on Jan. 12 in connection with a road rage incident on Jan. 4, in which the victim was shot in the face, DPS said.

The shooting, which prompted a massive law enforcement response, happened on I-10 near Chandler Boulevard on the edge of the Gila River Indian Community. After being shot, the victim was able to get off the interstate and drive to a nearby gas station for help, DPS said.

According to DPS, the victim was able to help identify his shooter by providing a description of the vehicle he was driving.

The victim's dashcam captured images of the suspect vehicle and its license plate number, providing a significant lead in the investigation, according to DPS.

DPS said investigators were eventually able to identify Kupreisis as the individual involved in the shooting but not before he took measures to conceal the crime, including trading in his vehicle at a local auto dealership.

DPS said Kupreisis is facing the following charges:

  • Attempted murder
  • Aggravated assault
  • Drive-by shooting
