Cottonwood police officer hurt in shooting, suspect in custody

The suspect was taken into custody uninjured. The officer is expected to be OK.

COTTONWOOD, Ariz — A police officer is recovering and a suspect is in custody after a shooting in Cottonwood on Wednesday night. 

Officers were called around 7:45 p.m. to the area of Main and Birch streets, where a man was reportedly charging at passing vehicles. 

Police arrived, and there was an exchange of gunfire. One officer was hit, but their injuries are non-life-threatening. The officer is in stable condition.

The suspect was taken into custody a short time later without injury, police said. 

The Department of Public Safety is investigating the incident. 

Police have not identified the injured officer or the suspect in custody.
