TUCSON, Ariz. — Police in Tucson say a 3-year-old boy has died after a shooting that appears accidental and self-inflicted.

They say officers were called to a west-side home about 1 p.m. Tuesday, but the child, Bryson Skinner, was pronounced dead shortly after arrival at a hospital.

They say the child’s family members were in the home at the time of the shooting, which is being investigated by the police department’s Child Physical Abuse Unit.

After a search and interviews with witnesses, a family member, 19-year-old William Skinner and his girlfriend, 22-year-old Valerie Faidley, were arrested on charges of felony child abuse.

Police said the shooting appears to be accidental after Bryson found the handgun in the home.
