PHOENIX — Phoenix police have recently arrested a suspect in the 1998 murder of 28-year-old Sarah Carr.

The victim, a mother of six children, was shot to death at a home near 14th Street and McDowell Road on July 9, 1998.

A suspect was not identified until 2016 when new technology helped investigators submit charges against Javier Lorenzano-Nunez, who was extradited to Phoenix earlier this month and booked into jail on a homicide warrant.

"After 26 years, the suspect in the murder of Sarah Carr will now face accountability and charges related to his actions in July 1998," Phoenix police wrote in a statement.

One of Carr's children grew up to become a police officer in Austin.
