Surprise

The Surprise Police Department said it had arrested a 14-year-old after threats of violence were made against Valley Vista High School.

The teen, a student at the school, was arrested on Sept. 24 without incident, police said.

Police said the teen admitted to making the threat.

That teen is facing charges of making a terroristic threat, a class 3 Felony, and disorderly conduct, a class 1 Misdemeanor, police said.

“Once again, we thank the brave students who spoke up to protect their school. We want to remind students, parents and community members that threats of violence toward our schools will not be tolerated,” said Chief Benny Piña.

Buckeye

In Buckeye, police also arrested a 12-year-old boy on Sept. 23 after a threat directed at a school.

In this instance, a voicemail was left on a cell phone that belonged to a former teacher at Desert Sunset Elementary School in Tartesso, according to the Buckeye Police Department.

"In the voicemail, the caller threatened to 'shoot up' a classroom," police said.

Police said the boy does not attend the school.

Police said the boy was facing "criminal charges" but did not elaborate further.

Other threats and arrests

These latest arrests follow a recent uptick in threats to schools.

Over the weekend, Buckeye police arrested a 12-year-old girl after she made threats toward a school in Wisconsin, according to police.

On Sept. 19, Phoenix police arrested a teenage boy for his alleged involvement in posting mass shooting threats on social media regarding 12 different Valley schools, according to authorities.

On Sept. 19, the Mesa Police Department said it had identified multiple children who were allegedly involved in making threatening statements to "shoot up" a school.
