FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. — If you're heading up north this weekend, you may want to keep an eye on the sky: parts of northern Arizona are expecting snow!
Areas of snow were reported Saturday morning in western Coconino and Yavapai counties, as well as along Interstate 40 at Seligman and US 89A at Jacob Lake, according to the National Weather Service Flagstaff.
Scattered snow showers are expected for areas above 5,000 feet from Saturday to Sunday evening. Snowfall amounts from trace to 2" could be seen in areas like Peach Springs, Grand Canyon Village, Supai and Prescott.
NWS said with winter weather like this, people driving in the area should slow down, hikers should use caution on unpaved and untreated surfaces, and everyone should dress for the colder weather.
Grand Canyon National Park posted on Facebook that just enough snow fell to make village roadways and trails slick. Especially for hikers planning on going into the canyon, foot traction and hiking poles are recommended.
