FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. — A large winter storm is expected to drop several inches of snow in northern Arizona starting Wednesday and into the weekend, according to the National Weather Service Flagstaff.
Winds will kick up late Wednesday as the storm system advances toward Arizona. Wind gusts will be in the 25-35 mph range. Parts of Coconino County were under a severe thunderstorm warning Wednesday morning.

The NWS said the biggest impacts will likely be Thursday and Friday with 4-8 inches of snow expected in the High Country. A winter weather advisory is in effect from 11 a.m. Thursday to 6 p.m. Friday when the heaviest snow will fall. Around 4-8 inches is expected above 6,000 feet and up to a foot above 7,500 feet.
In the Valley, there's a chance for showers on Thursday and Friday.
The Arizona Department of Transportation suggests postponing non-essential travel during the storm. If that's not possible, pack a winter-driving kit and be prepared to spend longer times than normal on the roads, ADOT said.
