Tracking storms as they take aim at the Valley

A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect until 5 p.m. for Phoenix, Scottsdale and Tempe according to the National Weather Service.

PHOENIX — A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for parts of the Valley on Thursday evening according to the National Weather Service.

The NWS has issued thunderstorm warnings for Apache Junction, Gold Canyon, Queen Valley, Phoenix, Scottsdale, Chandler, Gilbert and Tempe into the evening.

Blowing dust is spreading the East Valley as well, NWS posted on "X," formerly known as Twitter.

There may be gusty outflow winds of 35 mph plus, NWS said.

Departures from Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport are delayed on average at least 105 minutes because of the thunderstorms and incoming flights have been grounded, according to the Federal Aviation Administration. The longest delay is 126 minutes, FAA said.

Over 19,000 outages have been reported across the East Valley in Ahwatukee, Tempe, Apache Junction and Gold Canyon, according to SRP. Power is expected to be restored between 6:55 p.m. and 10:55 p.m.

APS has reported over 2,000 customers are without service because of storms, mostly in Tempe. Power is expected to be restored near 7:55 p.m.
