Here's why Phoenix was hazy this morning

Extremely hazy conditions across the Valley of the Sun today; what is it?

If you have stepped outside today, you likely felt the cool temperatures, but you may have also noticed the extremely hazy conditions.

So what is in the air?

The haze is mostly dust that moved into the Valley during the early morning hours.

A cold front swept through the region resulting in strong winds across northern and western Arizona as well as southern California. This dust finally made its way into the Valley early this morning.

The dust has resulted in PM-10 and PM-2.5 air quality levels to rise into the moderate range. As a result, the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality recommends, “Unusually sensitive people should consider reducing prolonged or heavy exertion outdoors."

With light winds around the Valley today, expect conditions to remain hazy, albeit not as bad as this morning.
