Dust storm warnings issued for portions of Maricopa, Pinal counties expire

The dust storm warnings were in effect until as late as 10 p.m. and covered almost the entire Valley and other area stretching from I-8 to Fountain Hills.

PHOENIX — The National Weather Service in Phoenix issued a dust storm warning for parts of Maricopa and Pinal Counties on Sunday night, but they have expired. 

The first warning was issued at 7:49 p.m. after the NWS Doppler radar found "a wall of dust was along a line extending from near Big Horn to near Olberg to near San Tan Mountain Park to 6 miles south of Florence Junction, moving north at 35 mph." 

The warning was in effect until 9:15 p.m.  

The warning covered Interstate 10 between mileposts 148 and 177, Interstate 17 between mileposts 195 and 197 and Interstate 8 between mileposts 118 and 129. 

Cities impacted included Phoenix, Mesa, Chandler, Gilbert, Tempe, Avondale, Goodyear, Apache Junction, Gila Bend, East Mesa, Gold Canyon, Sun Lakes, Maricopa, Queen Creek, and Estrella. 

A second dust storm warning was issued at 8:37 p.m. as Doppler radar found "a wall of dust was along a line extending from Canyon Lake to near Usery Mountain Park to near Mesa, moving northwest at 25 mph." 

The second warning affected State Route 51 in Phoenix between mileposts 13 and 15, State Route 87 in Mesa between mileposts 177 and 213 and Loop 202 in Mesa between mileposts 14 and 21. 

The areas impacted by the second warning included Phoenix, Mesa, Scottsdale, Fountain Hills, Paradise Valley, Round Valley, Sugarloaf Mountain, Ballantine Trailhead, Granite Reef Dam, McDowell Mountain Park, Salt River Indian Community, Saguaro Lake, Goldfield Ranch, Scottsdale Airport, and Desert Ridge Marketplace. 

This warning was in effect until 10 p.m. 

A third warning was issued at 8:45 p.m. as Doppler radar found "a wall of dust was along a line extending from Sky
Harbor Airport to 6 miles north of Cotton Center, moving north at 30 mph."  

The highways affected included I-10 between mileposts 99 and 149, I-17 between mileposts 196 and 217 and State Route 51 between mileposts 1 and 13.  

Locations affected by the third warning included Phoenix, Glendale, Scottsdale, Peoria, Surprise, Avondale, Goodyear,
Buckeye, El Mirage, Paradise Valley, Tolleson, Youngtown, Sun City West, Waddell, and Laveen. 

The third warning was in effect until 9:45 p.m.
