PHOENIX — With record-smashing temperatures not that long ago, you're probably that much more eager for the winter months.

VERSIÓN EN ESPAÑOL: ¿Cómo prepararse para el invierno en Arizona? Una experta ofrece consejos útiles

"The more people understand the weather risks, we hope and think the safer they can be and protect their families," April Eaton, Climate and Catastrophe Leader with Allstate Insurance Company, said.

When you know the weather's impact, you can stay ahead of Mother Nature. The highly anticipated cooler months are right around the corner. But winter in Arizona can also bring storms and sub-freezing temperatures. Now is the time to prepare.

"Think first about your car. Getting that tune-up in advance of the weather changing...checking the breaks, the heater, the defroster, the tires, even the windshield wipers," Eaton added.

After a pathetic Monsoon 2024, you might also need to remember where to turn on the windshield wipers. When it comes to your home, Eaton suggests starting with the pipes.

"Check your pipes, insulate those pipes, especially if they're near exterior walls or unheated areas of the home," she added.

When strong winter winds or storms are in the forecast, Eaton also recommends making sure to properly secure and cover outside patio furniture. Any loose outside items can easily blow around in Arizona's potent winds.

During the fall and spring, Allstate recommends scheduling routine roof inspections and reviewing your insurance policy and coverage.
