Phoenix sees more rain in first 2 days of 2023 than it saw in first half of 2022

Phoenix rang in the new year with just over half an inch of rain, more than it saw in nearly 6 months of 2022, data from the National Weather Service shows.

PHOENIX — If the first days of 2023 are any indication, Phoenix is in store for a very wet year.

The Valley metro area saw just over half an inch of rain in the first two days of the new year. That may not sound like much to people in the Midwest or east coast, but that's overachieving compared to what the desert has seen recently.

For example, it took six months in 2022 to get that same amount.

Data from the National Weather Service showed that Phoenix saw a combined 0.54 inches of rain in the first two days of the year. Here's a breakdown of the first 6 months of 2022:

  • Jan. - 0.12
  • Feb. - 0.28
  • March - 0.15
  • April - 0.00
  • May - 0.00
  • June - 0.32 *(Much of June's rainfall occurred after June 15)*
