PHOENIX — Phoenix officially hit 100 degrees for the first time in 2020 just before 2 p.m. on Sunday, according to the National Weather Service in Phoenix. The city also broke the record-high temperature set for April 26, coming in at 102 degrees.
It's the first time Phoenix has hit 100 degrees in 220 days.
Interestingly, this is the second straight year that the first 100-degree day of the year has come on April 26.
The average first 100-degree day in Phoenix is May 2, NWS says. The first 100-degree day of the year has come as early as March 16 in Phoenix, as it did in 1988, and as late as June 18, which happened in 1913.
The record high temperature for April 26 was 101 degrees in 1898. That record was broken today at around 4:50 p.m. when Phoenix Sky Harbor recorded the temperature at 102 degrees.
NWS said on average, Phoenix has 110 days of temperatures at or above 100 degrees.
