Phoenix could see a '100-year heat wave' on Sunday

On Sunday, the forecast high is 109. Our record for that date is 105 set in 1917. If we break that record, Phoenix will experience a 100-year heat wave.

PHOENIX — 2024 has been record-worthy in the heat department, breaking daily, weekly, monthly and yearly records so far.

However, this weekend has potential to break a record set more than 100 years ago. The National Weather Service has extended our Excessive Heat Warning through Sunday as temperatures continue to be 10+ degrees above normal.

On Sunday, the forecast high is 109. Our record for that date is 105 set in 1917. If we break that record, Phoenix will experience a 100-year heat wave.

We will continue to track the excessive heat throughout the rest of the week and provide updates and resources when needed.
