NWS: 'It's safe to say we've had our last 110 degree day of the year'

According to the National Weather Service, there were 29 days of temperatures at or above 110 degrees this summer.

PHOENIX — This sizzling Phoenix summer is finally cooling down for the year.

The National Weather Service of Phoenix says near average temperatures are expected throughout the week and "it's safe to say we've had our last 110 degree day of the year."

The latest date Phoenix has seen temperatures in the 110s was on September 19, 2010.

Phoenix clocked 29 days of excessive temperatures at or above 110 degrees this summer. That's the fourth-highest number of days of excessive heat in one year on record.

And some of those temperatures on those 29 days tied and even set records in the Phoenix area.

Earlier this month, Phoenix tied its daily high temperature for Sept. 4 at 112 degrees. This was the last time Phoenix experienced temperatures above 110. And a new record high for August 20 was set this summer at a scorching 113 degrees.

This August was one of the driest and hottest for much of Arizona, according to the National Weather Service.

And it's not surprising many regard this monsoon as more of a "nonsoon". While there were many areas in Arizona that had some strong monsoon activity in August, places like Flagstaff and Phoenix were "abnormally hot and dry", according to NWS.
