Monsoon 2024 is going to need storm spotters: Here's how you can get involved

We are getting closer to the official start of Monsoon 2024. The National Weather Service in Phoenix needs more storm spotters.

PHOENIX — Just in time for the start of Monsoon 2024, you can become a trained storm spotter or brush up on your weather knowledge.

As we're getting closer to the monsoon, the National Weather Service in Phoenix and Flagstaff is hosting online webinars and in-person spotter training classes.

During the class, you will learn how to properly identify and report significant weather phenomena. You will learn how thunderstorms work, how to identify cloud features, and how your reports tie into the warnings and advisories issued by the National Weather Service.

Webinars and in-person classes are free and open to anyone interested in weather or becoming a trained storm spotter.
