Here's what it looks like inside an Arizona dust storm

AKA "haboob."

Dust storms in Arizona are cool to look at, while also potentially dangerous.

Drivers can be caught on a freeway with low visibility, creating dangerous conditions.

That was the case for many people Thursday when a large dust storm overtook central Arizona south of the Phoenix metro area.

The video in the player above was captured by 12 News viewers Melissa and Steve Sher on Hunt Highway in Florence. The video shows cars pulled off the highway while thick dust blows by. Some cars are seen continuing on the highway, despite the danger.

If you are caught on a highway or road in a dust storm, Arizona Department of Transportation recommends pulling off the road as far as possible, keeping your flashers off and taking your foot off the brake. This prevents other cars from following you and running into the back of your car.

Blowing dust is also a health risk. People who have moved to Arizona in the last 5 years are most at risk to contract valley fever from spores in the dust.
