There was an isolated storm chance in the Valley Thursday through sunset as monsoon storms developed across the state.
Around 3:30 p.m., a storm near Cave Creek and Fountain Hills moved east, away from the Valley, dropping more than an inch of rain in an hour in Carefree Ranch, according to the Flood Control District of Maricopa County.
The outflows helped storms develop across the Valley around 5 p.m., according to the National Weather Service in Phoenix.

Strong thunderstorms over Poland Junction north of Mayer triggered a flash flood warning for the eastern third of the Goodwin Fire Scar Thursday afternoon through 7 p.m., according to the National Weather Service in Flagstaff. Meanwhile, much of the rest of Yavapai County was also under flash flood warnings through Thursday evening.
Flash flooding was also a concern in southeastern Arizona, where “very moist and unstable conditions” led to the development of slow-moving thunderstorms, the National Weather Service in Tucson said.
9 p.m.
A storm cell near Apache Junction with a history of flash flooding is weakening as it moves south into Pinal County. Once the storm dissipates after 10 p.m., Arizona will begin a drying trend into next week.
7:40 p.m.
According to Arizona Public Service and Salt River Project outage maps, the storms knocked out power for more than 15,000 Valley residents in Phoenix and in the East Valley.
7:20 p.m.
Multiple cars were trapped by floodwaters in Phoenix Thursday night. Two trucks were hauled out of flooded washes after the drivers were rescued near 11th Street and Dunlap Avenue.
6:40 p.m.
Downtown Phoenix continues to see heavy rain as storms move east toward Tempe. Lindsay Riley says things should quiet down after the sun goes down.
6 p.m.
A flash flood warning is in effect for Maricopa County until 7:45 p.m. The NWS said some locations that will experience flooding include Scottsdale, New River, Cave Creek, Carefree, Camp Creek, Horseshoe Reservoir and Seven Springs.
5:50 p.m.
A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect until 6:45 p.m. for the storm cell moving northeast out of Phoenix. A group of storms northeast of Apache Junction triggered a severe thunderstorm warning until 6:30 p.m.
5:40 p.m.
Central and north Phoenix got some heavy rain from a storm cell headed toward Paradise Valley and Scottsdale.
Sky 12 flew over the Cave Creek/Carefree area as water from the severe storms flooded through washes. 12 News Meteorologist Lindsay Riley said Doppler estimates are showing that more than two inches of rain fell in the Cave Creek area in less than a 1-hour period.
