When it comes to Arizona weather, tropical storms or depressions are probably not the first thing that come to mind.
But they can and have made it into the Grand Canyon State.
Tropical storms in Arizona?
Team 12's Krystle Henderson brought up the question on 12 Today: How many hurricanes, tropical storms and tropical depressions have made it into Arizona?
The question was referring to fully intact storms, crossing the border as such.
The answer? Eight.
A total of eight tropical storms and depressions have made it into Arizona. There haven't been any hurricanes that have crossed into the state.
The latest tropical storm or depression to make it to Arizona was in 2016 when tropical depression Newton crossed pretty close to Nogales. It was actually the second landfall by Hurricane Newton, which weakened to a depression by the time it hit Arizona.
