Phoenix breaks heat record — again

The temperature at Sky Harbor reached 110 degrees, making it the 54th day this year of at least 110 degrees.

PHOENIX — Phoenix set a new record for the number of days this year with temperatures at least 110 degrees today. 

Saturday Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport reached 110 degrees just after 2 p.m., making Sept. 9 the 54th day the city has had temperatures of at least 110 degrees, the National Weather Service said.

The previous record of 53 days was set three years ago, PWS said. 

Phoenix also broke the daily heat record for the day with 114 degrees. The previous record was 111 degrees, set on Sept.  9, 2021.

There have been 194 confirmed heat deaths in Maricopa County as of Sept. 6, according to the Maricopa County Department of Public Health. An additional 351 deaths are under investigation.
