Get ready for excessive heat to dominate the Valley forecast

Expect several days of temperatures near 115 degrees in parts of the Valley over the next week.

PHOENIX — Stop me if you've heard this before: it's getting hot in Phoenix.

That's nothing new for Valley residents, but the upcoming heat headed to Arizona is something worth talking about.

The National Weather Service has issued an Excessive Heat Watch for southwestern and south-central Arizona from July 4 through July 9. It is expected to upgrade to an Excessive Heat Warning on Thursday.

Temperatures can be expected between 110-117 degrees in some areas with lows in the 90s, NWS said. It is very important to be aware of your surroundings and current temperatures as the Valley deals with the upcoming heat spell.

Little to no relief from this upcoming round of heat is expected as evening temps around the Valley are barely expected to drop into the low 90s and high 80s.

FORECAST: How long will the excessive heat stick around?

How to stay safe in the heat

The NWS offers these precautions to residents during extreme heat incidents:

  • Stay hydrated
  • Avoid sun exposure from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Use air conditioning if you have access to it, fans may not be enough
  • Wear light, loose-fitting clothing
