Arizona wildfires creating hot and hazy weather over the Valley

The National Weather Service said on Monday that a large plume of smoke from the Telegraph Fire has drifted westward

PHOENIX — If you look outside, you’ll notice Arizona’s normally radiant sunshine blotted out by a layer of haze.

The National Weather Service said on Monday that a large plume of smoke from the Telegraph Fire has drifted westward from Gila County and blanketed the Valley.

The fire has burned around 88,155 acres and closed multiple roadways in the area, deputies said.

The smoke comes as Phoenix sees near record-breaking heat. The forecast high for Monday is 116 degrees.

RELATED: High heat and high pollution

An excessive heat warning will keep its firm grip throughout the entire workweek and even part of next weekend across most of Arizona.

The high heat is also hiking up ozone levels, prompting a high pollution advisory for the Phoenix metro throughout the week.

Fire restrictions are in place on state-owned land and national forests.

The heat is expected to rise as high as 118 degrees this week as the monsoon begins.
