Live winter storm updates: Much cooler tonight with lows falling into the 30s and lower 40s

Significant snowfall amounts are forecast, with the highest elevations receiving up to a foot of snow.

Winter weather is expected to impact Arizona over the next few days, and officials are asking people to use caution on roadways or avoid them completely in northern Arizona. 

Winter Weather Alerts were posted for elevations above 5,000 feet starting Sunday night through Monday evening. Significant snowfall amounts are forecasted; the highest elevations will receive up to a foot of snow. Snow levels will drop to around 3,000 feet, where one to three inches of snow are forecast.

Some low desert locations are expected to see more than half an inch of rain. Rainfall amounts will range from a couple of tenths of an inch to just under one inch.

MONDAY

10:25 p.m. We'll see some additional rain showers in Phoenix on Monday night, but by Tuesday, we will dry out.

10:15 p.m. Black ice continues to be a concern as temperatures plummet in Flagstaff.

9 p.m. There are reports of several vehicles (including a fire truck) either stuck in snow on I-17 or sliding off the road. We strongly recommend postponing travel.

8:55 p.m. Spotty showers are moving through south-central Arizona.

6:20 p.m. Bands of light rain heading towards the Phoenix metro & surrounding areas this evening.  

6:15 p.m.  All Blue Ridge Schools will operate on a 2-hour delay for Tuesday, December 13. The school says this will ensure that campuses and grounds are prepared so that students and staff can safely attend.

5:55 p.m. Two of ADOT's 200 snowplows working to keep the roads clear for Arizonans and visitors alike.  

5:45 p.m. Families took to the mountains Monday to enjoy the Flagstaff snow.

5:40 p.m. For much of the area, daily high temperatures actually occurred overnight ahead of the cold front. 

3:50 p.m.  If traveling I-8 or I-10 in SW AZ, be prepared for wet roads.

3:20 p.m. Much colder temperatures are in store late Tuesday into Wednesday morning and again late Wednesday into Thursday morning.

2 p.m. Over six inches of snowfall have been reported in Flagstaff.

8:30 a.m.: Sunshine melts some snow, leaves slush

5:40 a.m.: Numerous vehicles stuck in the snow on I-17

5 a.m.: Snowchains recommended on certain roads

4:48 a.m.: ADOT continues to ask drivers to avoid travel

4:30 a.m.: Snow continues to fall, but there are no weather-related road closures in place

11:30 p.m.: Flagstaff roads become hazardous

10 p.m.: Snow began to cover northern Arizona roads

8:30 p.m.: Rain and snow are falling over western Arizona

8 p.m.: Rainfall in Phoenix is expected between 4-8 a.m. Monday

7 p.m.: Showers are pushing into southwest Arizona

4:32 p.m.: Light showers are developing in California and will move toward Arizona through the evening.
