ARIZONA, USA — A storm system moving in from California will bring rain to areas all across Arizona this weekend.
While rain is not expected to be steady, hit-and-miss showers are possible for the Valley on Saturday afternoon.
Southern and eastern Arizona storms will likely last through the entirety of the weekend, bringing up to 0.5 inches of rain.
Here's what you need to know ahead of a possibly rainy weekend.
WHEN:
A storm system originating off the California coast will move onshore this weekend and bring some much-needed rain to the desert southwest.
TIMING ACROSS THE STATE:
Rain will start between 7-9 a.m. on Saturday for Southern and Eastern Arizona and will likely continue through Sunday. The band of rain that is expected to set up in this location will not move much all weekend. Locations near this steady band of rain include Tucson, Safford, the White Mountains, Show Low, and Casa Grande.
In Phoenix, the rain will likely begin between 12-2 p.m. on Saturday. It will not be a steady all-day rain, but a hit-or-miss shower will be possible through Sunday AM around the Valley.
Rain will hold off until Saturday night further north in places like Flagstaff, Sedona, Prescott, and the Grand Canyon. Shower chances will continue across northern Arizona through Sunday morning.
HOW MUCH RAIN?
Southern and Eastern Arizona including Tucson, Bisbee, Safford, Casa Grande, Show Low, and the White Mountains, will see the most precipitation, with over 0.5" of rain expected.
Payson will likely fall between 0.25"- 0.5".
In the Valley, rain totals should stay below 0.25".
Across northern Arizona, including Sedona, Prescott, Flagstaff, and up to the Grand Canyon and Page, rain totals should be under 0.1".
Western Arizona, including Kingman, Lake Havasu, and Parker will remain dry and mostly cloudy this weekend.
ANY SNOW?
Snow levels will remain very high with this system at about 10,000 feet. Only the tallest peaks will see accumulating snow which could range between 4-6".
