Here's why you should adjust your watering schedule during monsoon season

Now is when we need to think about when and how often we water.

PHOENIX — It's that time of year when triple digits become the norm. That also means it's time to change our outside watering habits.

Now is when we need to think about when and how often we water.

You want to avoid watering during the hottest time of the day. Water Resource Specialist Emilie Brown recommends watering around two to three in the morning; that's because this time of year, the evening temperatures are too high.

Check your schedule, and water when the temperatures are lower to limit evaporation. Brown suggests using a smart irrigation controller; this will help control the times and frequency of water.

Water by the weather. Pay extra attention to the weather forecast. When you know it's going to rain, you can skip your next planned watering day. On rainy, stormy days make sure your irrigation controllers are turned off.

Hopefully, Mother Nature will allow us to skip plenty of watering days during the monsoon.
