PHOENIX — According to the Arizona Department of Transportation, many people are stuck in traffic on I-17 between Flagstaff and Phoenix because of Labor Day travel.

ADOT said traffic is currently the heaviest in the southbound lanes from south of Camp Verde at milepost 275 and through Black Canyon City at milepost 240. Officials are also reporting a heavy slowing on westbound State Route 260 east of Payson.

An ADOT camera near Cordes Junction is showing a standstill in the southbound lanes of I-17.

"Motorists returning today to the Phoenix metro area and points south should be prepared to spend longer than normal times on highways and to pack a travel kit that includes extra water, snacks, a fully-charged cell phone and charger, and prescription medications," a statement from ADOT officials said.
