Delays continue at Phoenix Sky Harbor after foggy morning on Christmas Eve

A partial ground stop was in effect Sunday morning because of fog, authorities said. Even though it was lifted, delays are still likely.

PHOENIX — A partial ground stop at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport has been lifted, but delays are still likely as people travel home for the holidays. There are 220 delays and 17 cancellations, according to Flight Aware.

Traffic is experiencing gate hold and taxi delays between 15 minutes and 29 minutes in length and increasing, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.  Departures to Sky Harbor are delayed because of low visibility.

According to Flight Aware, 104 Southwest flights are delayed at Sky Harbor Airport. American Airlines has 35 delayed flights and SkyWest has 30. Southwest is the only airline with cancellations as of 9:50 p.m.

According to a spokesperson at Sky Harbor, the ground stop Sunday morning was because of fog and impacted only arriving aircrafts. An airplane attempting to travel to Sky Harbor, but had not yet taken off, for example, may have experienced delays.
