PHOENIX — American Airlines will now offer flights from Phoenix to Tijuana, Mexico at Sky Harbor Airport.
The announcement was celebrated Thursday with a mariachi band at the airport.
The airline is offering direct daily flights to the coastal city.
Tijuana is known for its lively entertainment and art scenes. It is Mexico’s second most populous city in the state of Baja California.

Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego was present to celebrate the new service.
“Now you can go nonstop to the area of Mexico that has the best wine, beaches and so much more… it's our 104th destination served directly out of Sky Harbor so you can go all over the world from America's number one airport,” said Gallego.
This new route makes American Airlines the only airline to offer international flights between Tijuana and the United States.
“Phoenix and Mexico share strong trade and tourism connections, and this new direct route to Tijuana further reinforces our partnership,” said Gallego.
It marks the 14th Mexican destination the airline serves from Sky Harbor.
Flights will land at the General Abelardo L. Rodríguez International Airport.
Gallego said the new addition is expected to generate $10 million in economic impact.
