ARIZONA, USA — A wrong-way crash on Interstate 17 left one person dead and four others seriously hurt early Wednesday morning, officials with the Department of Public Safety said.
According to early reports, the crash happened shortly before 2 a.m. in the southbound lanes of I-17 at milepost 299 near Rimrock.
DPS said that a driver was heading north in the southbound lanes and collided head-on with another sedan on the roadway.
The wrong-way driver, who was the only person in the vehicle, was pronounced dead on the scene. The four people in the other vehicle were rushed to the hospital with serious injuries, officials said.
Investigators believe that impairment played a part in the crash.
