Drivers warned to be cautious about water leak in I-10 tunnel

ADOT says a broken valve at a city park has led to water leaking into the I-10 tunnel.

PHOENIX — Motorists passing through the Interstate 10 tunnel near 7th Avenue in Phoenix may notice some water droplets hitting the freeway.

Signs have recently been warning drivers to be extra cautious before entering the downtown tunnel due to wet roads. The Arizona Department of Transportation said the leakage was due to a broken valve.

According to a spokesman for the agency, the broken valve is part of the irrigation system at Margaret T. Hance Park, which is located near the I-10 tunnel.

The valve has reportedly been repaired but there's still some residual water dripping into the tunnel, ADOT said. ADOT cameras in the tunnel show that the roadway is still wet as of Thursday morning.

The agency will continue to monitor the situation. We will provide any updates as they become available.
