Westbound lanes of Loop 202 reopen in Tempe after being closed due to hit-and-run crash

The closure was in effect at the Scottsdale Road exit and ended at about 4:15 p.m. Here are the latest details.

TEMPE, Ariz. β€” The westbound lanes of Loop 202 have reopened in Tempe after being closed due to a crash, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.

The crash happened near the Scottsdale Road off-ramp, which  is where traffic was being directed off the freeway.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety told 12News that the crash that caused the closure was a hit-and-run and involved two cars. At least one person was injured.

The freeway closed at about 2:30 p.m. on Saturday and reopened at about 4:15 p.m.

This came as Loop 202 was seeing extra traffic due to the westbound lanes of Interstate 10 being closed between US 60 in Tempe and Interstate 17 in Phoenix south of Sky Harbor International Airport, the southbound lanes of Loop 101 being closed between the Loop 202 and US 60 in Tempe and the WNBA All-Star Weekend being in town.

Drivers can check real-time road conditions before they leave on AZ511.gov, in the AZ511 app or by calling 511.
