PHOENIX — One man is dead following a crash in west Phoenix, the city's police department said.
Phoenix police and detectives were called to a fatal crash that involved multiple vehicles including a large semi-truck at 51st Avenue and Osborn Road. When the officers got to the area, they found a man who was trapped in his car.
The fire department extricated the man and provided lifesaving measures, but the man did not survive his injuries.
Police said the man was driving north on 51st Avenue when he struck the back of a car. The crash caused the man to lose control and drive into the southbound lanes. Police said the man's car then hit a large semi-truck and was eventually pushed into a third vehicle.
All other occupants of the vehicles involved in the crash stayed in the area and no one else was injured.
The intersection was closed for an extended period of time while the incident was investigated, police said.
