PHOENIX — The man killed by an allegedly impaired driver while riding his motorcycle on I-10 over the weekend was a "loving, caring husband" to his wife and two young boys, his family said in a statement.
Craig Cooper, 42, was hit by a vehicle driving 140 mph on I-10 early Sunday morning, according to Phoenix police.
"Craig was an amazing adventurous man that loved to be outdoors with his family and dogs while enjoying hikes, biking and creating videos and memories with his family and friends. Craig leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife Brittane Cooper and their two sons, his father Craig Sr., his mother 1st Lady Deborah his sister Jazzmin, step-siblings and a host of family and friends," the statement said in part.
The family said a GoFundMe has been set up for Cooper's family.
The Arizona Department of Public Safety said a vehicle traveling about 140 mph on Interstate 10 in Phoenix crashed into Cooper's motorcycle and then caught on fire.
DPS said the vehicle was observed driving 140 mph on I-10 around 1:17 a.m. on Sunday. The vehicle then hit the motorcycle, drove another mile and then caught fire.
The vehicle's driver, identified as Andrew Ramirez Perez, was taken into custody and impairment is suspected, officials said.
According to court documents, Perez is being charged with murder second-degree and a pending DUI charge.
No other information was given.
