Man arrested after crash that closed part of the U.S. 60 in the East Valley

The closure was due to a police situation, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation. Here's the latest information

GILBERT, Ariz. — A man was taken into custody after causing a crash on the U.S. 60 in Gilbert, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation

The crash casued a large backup in the eastbound lanes near Val Vista Drive. ADOT cameras showed the entire eastbound side of the freeway being closed before deputies opened the right lanes to allow cars through.

Video from Sky 12 showed a collision between a pickup truck and a car in the HOV lane of the freeway. 

The Arizona Department of Safety told 12News troopers were on the freeway responding to the two-vehicle crash. Troopers tried to get the driver who was at fault for the crash to come out of his car, but he refused. They were later able to take the driver into custody. 

No other details about the crash, including injuries to any other people and what led up to the crash, have been released.
