I-17 northbound reopened near Black Canyon City after crews remove beam from overturned semi

The roadway was closed for several hours Sunday evening while crews cleaned up debris from a semi-truck rollover crash. Here is the latest information.

BLACK CANYON CITY, Ariz. — Interstate 17 is reopened at milepost 242 in Black Canyon City after crews worked to remove a large beam that was left on the roadway from an overturned semi on Saturday, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.

ADOT says the closure went into effect at 8 p.m. and was expected to last several hours on Sunday evening.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety investigated a semi-truck rollover crash on Saturday. The truck was carrying a 70,000 lb. beam in an oversized load. The beam has been blocking the northbound lane and caused a traffic jam that lasted several miles, according to ADOT.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety said Sunday morning one of the northbound lanes would be closed all day and the other would be closed during the evening while a crane is brought to the scene to upright and remove the vehicle. The process would take approximately four hours, AZDPS said, and required a full closure of northbound lanes.
